My name is Mimi and I am a 60-something Baby Boomer who has been blogging for about eight years now (off and on) over at a spot called Mauigirl’s Meanderings. Over there I am known as Mauigirl, and my cat Baxter and I write mainly about current events and politics.
I come from a family of writers and majored in journalism in college, but somehow ended up in the market research field for 31 years instead, trying to figure out what people buy, when they buy it and why. It’s been fun, but enough is enough. I retired in 2010, took care of my aging mom and aunt for a couple of years, and after they passed away finally have time to figure out what I want to be when I grow up.
Now I write for the “hyperlocal” place blog, Baristanet.com, covering civic events in my town of Bloomfield, NJ. I also volunteer for a local pit bull rescue group called Pitty Rescue, Inc. I also have become a complete Facebook addict and am trying to find other things to keep me occupied other than bloviating on Facebook all day.
I’ve been writing since I was a little girl; I even wrote a set of “books” that were all about the adventures of my trolls, the little dolls with the fuzzy long hair that were popular when I was a kid, and again a few years ago. I made up little miniature “newspapers” about the trolls, and I also kept a diary for years, then and again when I was in my late teens/early twenties.
I started this blog several years ago with the idea I might try to do some serious writing rather than just opinionating over at my regular blog or on Facebook. I haven’t ever tried to write fiction or poetry or anything like that and I thought this might be a good place to do it.
For those of you who have followed me over here from Mauigirl’s Meanderings, welcome. For any newcomers, welcome and I hope you will find something you like here.
